In our increasingly digital world, protecting personal data has never been more critical. Data Privacy Day, celebrated internationally every year on January 28, serves as a vital reminder of our shared responsibility to safeguard privacy in the digital age. Let's explore this important day and what we can all do to advance data privacy.

What is Data Privacy Day?

Data Privacy Day is an international event dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting personal information online. Data Privacy Day is celebrated every year on January 28 to commemorate the signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty addressing privacy and data protection, signed on January 28, 1981.

The Council of Europe first established Data Privacy Day in 2007, and the United States followed suit by officially recognizing it in 2009. The day has since grown into a global movement that is celebrated in countries around the world.

What started as a single day has now expanded into Data Privacy Week and even month-long observations dedicated to privacy awareness. This expansion reflects the growing importance of privacy protection in our connected world, where dramatic increases in personal data processing have spurred new privacy regulation and stricter enforcement.

How Privado is Celebrating Data Privacy Day

At Privado, we will be preparing to host Bridge Privacy Summit, the largest conference dedicated to technical privacy, on February 5-6, 2025. Bridge Summit is a one-of-a-kind event for privacy professionals around the world to discuss the latest technical privacy problems and solutions.

After 1,200 privacy professionals attended the inaugural Bridge Summit in 2024, Privado expanded Bridge 2025 to 16 sessions over two days.

Bridge Summit will bring together a growing number of roles across privacy, engineering, AI, security, legal, and data analytics teams to share privacy knowledge and grow professionally. Bridge 2025 will focus on five key themes: The Future of Privacy Technology, Efficiency, Marketing & Consent, AI, and Career Development.

Privado invites everyone to continue building on the momentum of Data Privacy Day and join us for Bridge Summit. The virtual conference is free to attend for anyone who is interested.
